PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharging mechanism for an excavator for excavating a tunnel downward, which efficiently and positively discharges excavation debris upward. SOLUTION: According to the discharging mechanism, muck excavated by a cutter head 2 is discharged together with water into a tank 4 arranged at a location higher than the cutter head by a predetermined height, by a suction pipe 6, and the excavation muck is settled into a crushing device 5 arranged in a lower end of the tank 4 and finely crushed, followed by discharging the crushed muck upward together with the water through a discharge pipe 13a. Then the water is allowed to overflow the tank 4 and returned to a rear side of the cutter head 2, and by adjusting the discharge amount of the debris from the discharge pipe 13a, the water level on the rear side of the cutter head 2 is maintained to a predetermined height.
