<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for efficiently manufacturing 2-layer carbon nanotube or further a multilayer one having controlled characteristics such as shape with high purity and a method of refining the same. <P>SOLUTION: The 2-layer carbon nanotube having an inside layer with a diameter of 1-1.5nm and an outside layer with a diameter of 1.7-2.2nm is selectively manufactured by vaporizing a catalyst metal-mixed carbon electrode with pulse arc discharge carried out under an inert gas atmosphere at ≥1,200°C and cooling the vaporized electrode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
