PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To synchronize versions of a client, which has a hierarchical data structure having some components that can finely be edited, and a server. SOLUTION: To appropriately synchronize versions of the client, which has a hierarchical data structure, and the server, the server identifies all necessary changes that occur in the version of the client. Each of the changes includes editing one or more components, which can finely be edited, in the data structure. The server divides synchronization information into a plurality of messages, and then transmits the messages individually to the client computer system. The client finely processes each of the messages. For each of the changes specified as identified in one message, the client computer system identifies components that can finely be edited with the changes, and then edits (i.e., inserts, changes or deletes) the components, which can finely be edited, in a specified form.
