PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure a proper registration displacement amount at all times without being influenced by an ink stain. SOLUTION: A test pattern having a line of each color of cyan, magenta and yellow printed is acquired at a measurement position where a recording paper is transferred by a predetermined amount from a reference position where a magenta line is printed. A density distribution is measured from the line of each color, and left side and right side coordinates of each color are specified. Distances between a reference coordinate P of the reference position, and the specified left side and right side coordinates of each color are calculated. Displacement amounts between left side and right side coordinates of the magenta line, and left side and right side coordinates of the line of each color of cyan and yellow are calculated from the calculated distances. In the case where the density distribution of the left side and the density distribution of the right side via a maximum density value of each line of cyan and yellow are asymmetric, the displacement amount is corrected by multiplying the displacement amount of the falling side by a correction factor.
