An energy-producing unit for dwellings or vehicles of any sort comprises a water supply system (1,2), an electrolytic generator of hydrogen from water (3) and a fuel cell (4) using the hydrogen. The oxygen generated is passed through a controller and used in the fuel cell as an oxygen/air mixture. There is a heat exchanger (7).
