A vibratory cleaning/polishing head (12) secured to manually operated handle (16) includes a detachable cleaning/polishing pad (40) secured to the head, and a rechargeable battery (34) and vibratory unit (30) including a motor (32). In one embodiment, the vibratory unit (30) and battery (34) are substantially contained within the head housing (14). In another embodiment the vibratory unit (30) and battery (34) are situated atop of the housing (14). The motor (32) contains a driveshaft (44') to which an eccentric eleme nt (46') is secured. The driveshaft (44') extends substantially parallel to the horizontal upper surface of the head (12), wherein vibration of the head in a vertical plane is induced for enhancing efficacy of cleaning/polishing. In o ne embodiment, the device (10) has two vibratory units (30, 30') secured to the head (12), each spaced from the other on laterally opposed sides of attachme nt yoke (18).
