PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide spacers for a liquid crystal display element, with which the liquid crystal display element having high-quality display performance without any adverse impact on a liquid crystal such as disturbance in liquid crystal alignment is obtained, and to provide the liquid crystal display element using the spacers for the liquid crystal display element. SOLUTION: The spacers for the liquid crystal display element are used for the liquid crystal display element. In a system in which the spacers for the liquid crystal display element are filled in a column and are used as a stationary phase and a 1 to 1 mixed liquid of n-propyl alcohol and water is used as a mobile phase and benzene is made to flow thereinto, an elution volume of liquid crystal molecules expressed by formula 1 is made to be 5 ml or more under a condition that a value N expressed by an equation (1) is 100 or more. Here, the equation (1) is N = 16[V/W]<SP>2</SP>wherein V represents an elution volume of benzene and W represents a peak width of benzene. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
