PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate dust and flaws by automatically detecting hardware for eliminating dust and flaws of a film and passing an infrared image to the hardware to eliminate dust and flaws when the hardware is incorporated, and to eliminate the dust and flaws with software when there is no hardware for eliminating dust and flaws. SOLUTION: A film scanner comprises a means for reading a visible image and a means for reading an infrared image, wherein the hardware for eliminating dust and flaws is attachable and detachable. The infrared image is transferrable to an IF of a host and the hardware for eliminating dust and flaws. When the hardware is mounted, the infrared image is transferred to the hardware for eliminating dust and flaws, and when the hardware is not mounted, the infrared image is transferred to the hardware for eliminating dust and flaws.
