PURPOSE: A process for preparation of 2,2'-di(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) is provided, thereby preparing 2,2'-di(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) without the use of cold mixtures or the like for external cooling, and allowing implementation under air without protective gas technology. CONSTITUTION: The process for preparing 2,2'-di(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) of the formula(1) comprises reacting compounds of the formula(2) with a dehydrogenating agent, wherein A is an optionally substituted C2-C4-alkylene radical; R is one or more, identical or different, linear or branched, optionally substituted C1-C18-alkyl radical, optionally substituted C5-C12-cycloalkyl radical, optionally substituted C6-C14-aryl radical, optionally substituted C1-C4-hydroxyalkyl radical or one or more hydroxyl radical; x is an integer from 0 to 8; and the dehydrogenating agent is selected from the group consisting of quinones, sulphur, bromine, N-chloro- or N-bromosuccinimide, sulphuryl-chloride, hydrogen peroxide and iodosobenzene.
