PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for diffuse spectrum modulation using a discontinuous spread code which are especially used in an area of third generation telecommunication system for a cellular telephone. SOLUTION: The used spectrum spread code is a sequence of chips, and a value for at least one of the chips is zero. These codes are referred to as the discontinuous spread codes. With each chip having a value of 0 in the discontinuous spread code, a transmission electric power approximating 0 for a corresponding transmission signal is generated. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
