<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laminated wavelength plate which functions as a half-wave plate in 400-700 nm wavelength region by using a quartz substrate excellent in heat resistance or in reliability as a material of the wavelength plate. <P>SOLUTION: In The half-wave plate 5, a first quartz wavelength plate 6 with 190° phase difference Γ1 at 420 nm wavelength and 19° azimuth angle θ1 of an optic axis and a second quartz wavelength plate 7 with 200° phase difference Γ2 at 420 nm wavelength and 64° azimuth angle θ2 of an optic axis laminated so as to make respective crystal optic axes 8, 9 mutually intersect forming 45° angle with each other and functions as the half-wave plate in a wide band of 400-700 nm wavelength region as a whole. As a result, when linearly polarized light 10, a p-polarized light component, is made incident on the half-wave plate 5, its phase is shifted by 180° at a light emitting surface, and consequently the half-wave plate 5 has a function to output the light as a linearly polarized light 11 being a s-polarized light component with a plane of polarization of the incident light rotated by 90°. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
