PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a painting method for wood building materials which gives a wood building material with reduced conspicuousness of wood grains formed by the vessel of wood when the material involves a wood veneer made of a wood material having large vessel pores, such as ring-porous wood. SOLUTION: The method comprises applying a UV-hardenable paint 5 added with a white pigment onto the surface of a wood veneer 2 of a wood building material 4 in which the wood veneer 2 is adhered to the surface of a wood base material 1, contacting a reverse roll 10 with the surface of the applied material 4 in a sliding manner, with the paint 5 yet in an unhardened state, to penetrate the paint 5 into the vessel of the veneer 2, hardening the paint with UV rays, and performing main application of the surface of the veneer 2 of the material 4.
