The adjustment mechanism adjusts the height or the angle of a vehicle outer cladding element and contains at least one traction element (1) that is joined at one end to a part (7) of a vehicle and at the other end directly or indirectly to the vehicle outer cladding (12). The traction element consists at least partly of a shape memory alloy and can be connected to at least one joint or a linkage arm.
