<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a life prolongation of a backlight used for a liquid crystal display or the like. <P>SOLUTION: In the backlight 11 constituted so that a filter 15 to transmit visible rays 6 and reflect ultraviolet rays 7 is arranged backward of a fluorescent material 14 to generate visible rays 6 by ultraviolet rays from an ultraviolet lamp 10, and the visible rays 6 are emitted forward, a lamp housing part 12a of a backlight container 12 which is a space sealed by the fluorescent material 14 and the filter 15 is made into a vacuum state.
