PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical coupling method for an integrator rod which dispenses with replacement of the integrator rod by evading heat fusion of a reflecting mirror when the position of the integrator rod is adjusted thereby realizing cost reduction and has no problem in making the luminance of a projector high, and the projector. SOLUTION: The optical coupling method for the integrator rod is for optically coupling a light source 5 and the integrator rod 6A with each other so that projection light from the integrator rod 6A for the projector is incident correctly on an opening part 6c by adjusting the position of the integrator rod 6A for the projector, the integrator rod 6A being equipped on its light incidence surface with the reflecting mirror 6C having the opening part 6c at the center part. When the position of the integrator rod 6A is adjusted, the light which is made incident on the integrator rod 6A from the light source 5 is dimmed by, for example, a dimmer filter 21.
