PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an orange coloring matter having hues with high sharpness suitable for ink-jet recording, strong fastness of records and excellent preservation stability.

SOLUTION: The coloring matter for an orange ink in the form of a free acid is represented by general formula (1) (wherein, R1denotes a hydrogen atom, a carboxy group or sulfonic acid group; and R2denotes a carboxy group or a sulfonic acid group).
