PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable rotary compressor that prevents scattering of lubricating oil to a discharge gas space, reduces discharged oil amount into a refrigeration cycle, prevents decrease of heat exchange efficiency, and does not cause oil shortage even in a high rotation speed operation of the compressor. SOLUTION: The rotary compressor has a motor and a compression section in a sealed container having an oil sump 12 for storing the lubricating oil on the bottom. The compression section is formed of a shaft 4 having an oil feeding passage 4a inside, a cylinder, an upper bearing and a lower bearing that are arranged on both ends in the axial direction of the cylinder and rotatably support the shaft 4, and an upper muffler 8a covering part of the upper bearing 8. The lower end of the shaft 4 is soaked in the lubricating oil 12a of the oil sump 12, the lubricating oil 12a is pumped up via the oil feeding passage 4a in cooperation with rotation of the shaft 4, and the lubricating oil is fed to each sliding part. A cylindrical oil scattering preventing cover 13 for covering at least the outer peripheral surface of the upper bearing 8 with a slight clearance is disposed between the bottom surface of the motor and the upper muffler 8a.
