PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an eddy current type decelerator, in which a large number of magnetic poles to a braking drum can be obtained by a single electromagnetic coil and which can realize reduction in cost by simplifying the structure. SOLUTION: The eddy current type decelerator is mounted with the braking drum 6, which is provided to a rotating shaft 1 and by which an eddy current is generated, and an electromagnet 9 mounted on the fixing side oppositely to the braking drum 6. The electromagnet 9 is provided with a cylindrical core 10 mounted on the fixing side and formed concentrically with the rotating shaft 1, the electromagnetic coil 12 formed by winding electric wire to the core 10 around the rotating shaft 1, annular magnetic pole members 13, 14 mounted to the core 10 sandwiching the electromagnetic coil 12.
