PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit an operator to appropriately and easily change a break point of a scene or a representative picture. SOLUTION: A signal processing method for processing moving picture data is provided with a division process (S106) for hierarchizing the moving picture data and dividing them into respective moving picture sections based on a prescribed condition, a setting process (S107) for automatically setting the representative picture of the respective moving picture sections based on the prescribed condition, a display process (diagram 9) displaying the representative picture at every hierarchy and a change process for performing at least one processing in a processing (diagram 14 and diagram 15) for dividing the divided moving picture section, a processing (diagram 17 and diagram 18) connecting at least the two divided moving picture sections, a processing (diagram 17 and diagram 15) for changing a division position of at least the two divided moving picture sections and a processing (diagram 22 and diagram 23) for changing the selected representative picture by selecting the representative picture displayed in the display process.
