PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a demodulation technology of an NRZ code capable of setting an optimum reference voltage independently of the amplitude and/or modulation degree of the NRZ code. SOLUTION: Disclosed herein is a demodulator including: a detection means for detecting a start bit of the NRZ code of a start-stop synchronization system; an averaging means for averaging a voltage of the start bit and a voltage of the start bit in a one-time slot preceding state; and a first comparison means for comparing voltages of data of a plurality of time slots in succession to the start bit of the NRZ code on the basis of the averaged voltage to provide an output of a demodulation signal.
