A lighting device has an LED matrix and a feed circuit comprising input connections (K1,2), an inductive element (L1), a diode and a switch (Q1) to which a control circuit is coupled to give a control signal to make the switch periodically conducting or non-conducting. The LED matrix is switched between the input and output (K3,4) connections. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a circuit as above;and (b) a liquid crystal display comprising the above
