<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an image display device which displays interlace video signals on a display device for sequential scanning without any sense of incongruity by a simple circuit configuration that does not use a frame memory, a moving picture detection circuit, or the like. <P>SOLUTION: Line memories 21 and 22 alternately store an input video signal VD1 in a scanning line unit. Video signals stored in the line memories 21 and 22 are respectively read by the prescribed number of times in accordance with a signaling method of the input video signal. A computing element 23 calculates the average value of the video signals read from the line memories 21 and 22. A selector circuit 24a selects signals of signal lines La and Lc under the control of a video output control part 25a when the input video signal VD1 is interlaced, and sequentially selects signals of signal lines La, Lb and Lc when the input video signal is based on a sequential scanning system.
