PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate and a substrate assembly for reducing transmission delay or transmission loss in transmitting signals to a plurality of substrates. SOLUTION: A backboard substrate 1 is shaped into a cylinder, and a plurality of daughter board substrates 2 are connected via connectors 3 to the outer circumferential surface of the backboard substrate 1 with the daughter boards 2 stretching in the radial direction. An optical fiber 6 is inserted into the backboard substrate 1 in line with its central axis. The center of an optical output section 7 is linked to the tip of the optical fiber 6. An annular optical connector 4 is provided at an end section of the backboard substrate 1, and, in the optical connector 4, a photoelectric conversion section 5 is provided for converting optical signals into electric signals.
