<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for merchandise information management for realizing linkage between a system for a consumer to easily refer to detailed information concerning a merchandise and a system for a manufacturer to grasp information such as customer stratum of the consumer and trend of merchandize sales. <P>SOLUTION: A two dimentional bar code reader provided with an internal storage device to which a user ID can be stored is distributed to the consumer. The consumer who receives the two dimentional bar code reader connects the two dimentional bar code reader to a cellphone, makes access to a specified homepage of a data management company and registers his/her personal information. Merchandise information is acquired by reading the two dimentional bar code attached to the merchandise and display is made to a display screen of a cellphone coping with the Internet. An electronic receipt is acquired when merchandise is purchased. The electronic receipt is sent to a server of the data management company and changed to points.
