<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data protection/storage method which protects data by encrypting and/or segmenting the data, distributes risks and stores the data on a network. <P>SOLUTION: The data to be stored are segmented after they are encrypted by means of a data encryption module 13 and a data dividing module 14. The data thus segmented are dispersively stored in a plurality of segmented data storage servers 2<SB>1</SB>to 2<SB>n</SB>via the network 4, or part of the segmented data are stored in the terminal 3 of a owner of the data to be stored and the remainder are dispersively stored in a plurality of the segmented data storage servers 2<SB>1</SB>to 2<SB>n</SB>. The tracks of the segmented data storage servers 2<SB>1</SB>to 2<SB>n</SB>in which the segmented data are stored are recorded in an index storage part 17.
