PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter dye composition for a photothermographic element which can be bleached permanently and rapidly at a lower temperature. SOLUTION: The photothermographic element has on a support one or more water-based paint coatable photosensitive image forming layers and one or more water-based paint coatable light absorbing layers, wherein the light absorbing layers comprise a barbituric acid arylidene filter dye combined with an effective amount of a base precursor in such a way as to produce a bleaching action.
