PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, e.g. a thermal printer, wherein a print control circuit having a high operating frequency required especially for high speed printing can be realized. SOLUTION: A counting/integrating circuit 11-1 counts data "1" included in head data Dn(0)-Dn(S/2-1) to be outputted from comparison circuits 5a and 5b in synchronism with the system clock and sequentially integrates them. On the other hand, a counting/integrating circuit 11-2 counts the data "1" included in head data Dn(S/2-1)-Dn(S-1) to be outputted from the comparison circuits 5a and 5b in synchronism with the system clock and sequentially integrates them. Integrated values from both counting/integrating circuits 11-1 and 11-2 are added by an adder circuit 12, and the time information of a corresponding strobe signal is read out from a RAM 14 and delivered, as a strobe signal of corresponding length, from a strobe control circuit 16 to a thermal head.
