The present invention provides for a method and composition for treatment and prevention of Type II Diabetes Mellitus and its complications comprising the step of administering to a patient a therapeutically-effective amount of Rhamnan Sulphate, its functional analogs, or its physiologically acceptable salts, in therapeutic proportions. The anticoagulation activity in the blood plasma of a patient is not appreciably increased.
