A streetcar runs on rails that are anchored by sub-surface transverse e.g. concrete or metal beams. The road surface between the rails is covered by asphalt, rendering it suitable for other road vehicles. The asphalt is applied esp. from a railcar-mounted hopper. The asphalt release hatch is activated by rod linkage to the operator platform.
