PURPOSE: Provided are a composition for preventing or treating atopic dermatitis without adverse effects when applied to the skin and a process for preparation thereof. CONSTITUTION: A therapeutic composition for preventing and treating atopic dermatitis is characterized by containing, as an active ingredient, the extract of Castanea crenata Siebold et Zuccarini, Coix lachryma L.var.mayoen Stapf., Schizandra chinensis Baillon, Platycodon grandiflorum A. DC., radish seed, Liriope platyphylla and Acorus gramineus Soland or its powder. It inhibits anaphylactic shock, histamine release and edema, as well as the activity of inflammatory cells. Therefore, it effectively prevents or treats atopic dermatitis.
