The packing unit is for fillets of fish and is particularly for fillets of mackerel cooked and clean arranged in baskets situated on the bench of a packing machine. Two endless movement chains (1,2) are involved which have an intermittent advance motion carrying several containers (3) filled with fillets of fish placed in baskets (5) manually by operators. Both chains separate in their final stage and on one side and the other remains a cutting knife (7) for elimination of projecting parts of the fillets. Between the chains is also a sysetm of impellers (9) which divert the fish fillets once they have stopped to one side and the other where there are empty cans (10) arranged in carousels (11) colateral to the transport chains. The filled cans advance on contiguous conveyor belts (13).
