METHOD FOR CHANGING CELLS BETWEEN SYSTEMS IN MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A method for changing cells between systems in a mobile communication system is provided to change cells between systems by interworking between a protocol stack supporting GSM/GPRS and a protocol stack supporting UMTS, thereby being applied to a dual-mode mobile terminal supporting UMTS W-CDMA-based and GSM-TDMA-based RAT(Radio Access Technology). CONSTITUTION: When a dual-mode mobile terminal receives a cell change command from a BSS(Base Station Subsystem)(3), a sublayer RR(Radio Resource)/GRR(GPRS-RR) of a GSM/GPRS network layer in the mobile terminal requests a GSM/GPRS data link layer to reserve a GSM/GPRS data link, requests a GSM/GPRS physical channel cancellation of a GSM/GPRS physical layer, and transmits the cell change command to a UTRAN(5). An RRC in a mobile terminal requests a UMTS physical channel configuration of a UMTS physical layer, and the UMTS physical layer decides whether the UMTS physical channel configuration is successful. If so, the RRC requests a UMTS data link layer to configure a UMTS data link, and transmits a message showing that a cell change procedure is successful to the UTRAN(5) through a UMTS channel. The RRC requests a GSM/GPRS resource cancellation of an RR/GRR in the mobile terminal, and resets the GSM/GPRS physical layer and a GSM/GPRS data link layer to be defaulted.
