PURPOSE: A method for predicting a picture motion vector is provided to improve the coding efficiency of a multi-hypothesis picture by applying a coding technique of a bidirectionally predictive coding picture to the multi-hypothesis picture having a unidirectional or bidirectional motion vector. CONSTITUTION: It is judged whether a macro block of a subsequent sequence picture which exists in a position same with the position of a macro block of a multi-hypothesis picture to be currently coded has a unidirectional or bidirectional motion vector. A temporal distance of the motion vector of the macro block of the subsequent picture is obtained. A temporal distance is obtained from a reference picture of the motion vector of the macro block of the subsequent picture to the macro block of the multi-hypothesis picture. Macro block predictive values of the multi-hypothesis picture are obtained using the motion vector of the macro block of the subsequent picture and the temporal distances. The obtained macro block predictive values are averaged and interpolated, and the last macro block predictive value of the multi-hypothesis picture is obtained. |
