An ultrasonic welding device has an ultrasonic source and an anvil forming a passage through which two superposed sheets to be joined can pass. The passage decreases in section between its inlet and its outlet. The source and/or the anvil has a ridge projecting into the passage and extending parallel to the direction of relative movement between the sheets and the device. Independent claims are included for: (a) Welding sheets as above; (b) Flexile packaging made as in (a).
