A photoconductive material consists of a homogeneous mixture of elemental selenium and elemental arsenic which contains at least 1 per cent by weight of arsenic, the atomic ratio of arsenic to selenium not exceeding 1.0. The alloy is made by heating a mixture of arsenic and selenium in a closed vessel to a temperature between 750 DEG F. and 900 DEG F. for a time sufficient to form the homogeneous mixture. The alloy may be deposited as a uniform film by evaporating it under vacuum and condensing it on a relatively cool substrate. |
