A primary object is to decrease the friction coefficient of a sliding face (3) of a sliding element (5) and to improve its seal performance. The sliding element (5) has a plurality of elongate dimples (5) in a first sliding face (3A) in which forward edges of the dimples relative to a rotational direction are inclined with respect to a tangential direction of a rotational circumference.
