LIGHT EMITTING DIODE AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF

PURPOSE: An LED(Light Emitting Diode) and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to improve the reflection characteristics of a reflecting layer by forming the reflecting layer using an aluminum layer and an alumina layer. CONSTITUTION: An LED is provided with a substrate(22), the first conductive type clad layer(24) formed on the substrate, an active layer(26) formed on the first conductive type clad layer, and the second conductive type clad layer(28) formed on the active layer. The LED further includes a pair of alumina layers(37,39) formed at the backside of the substrate and an aluminum layer(35) between the pair of alumina layers. Preferably, a glass layer is capable of being formed at the backside of the aluminum layer.
