The lip seal holder, e.g. for a motor vehicle power assisted steering system, consists of a cavity (8) in a rigid support (5) between a tubular housing (2) and a sliding steering rack (4). The outer end of the cavity has an annular slot in the support forming a deformable axial projection (11) that can be rolled or crimped into a radial position to enclose the seal.
