The procedure consists of fitting sensors to a motor vehicle with a field of detection that covers the potential impact zones with pedestrians wearing electroactive elements on their garments (4). The electroactive elements can be e.g. in the form of magnetic fibres incorporated in clothing, transponders, or a reflective waistcoat or armband.
