PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately and nondestructively evaluate a spot welded part without being affected by an inclined surface formed in the periphery of an indentation formed in the spot welded part. SOLUTION: In a metal plate 1a outside the spot welded part 2, a Lamb wave is excited toward a weld metal (2b) of the spot welded part to transmit the Lamb wave through the weld metal. By receiving the Lamb wave after transmission and detecting the amplitude of the transmitted Lamb wave, the diameter of a nugget 2a of the spot welded part is measured. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
