PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for adjusting the position of a fixed contact capable of highly accurately adjusting the contact starting position of a movable contact with the fixed contact regardless of variations in measurement. SOLUTION: The method for adjusting the fixed contact comprises a step for supporting the movable contact at a predetermined position, a step where the fixed contact terminal is deformed by the press with an adjusting piece and the position 3(b) of the fixed contact to be a desired adjusted position is measured by using a travel distance of the adjusting piece, a step for measuring the position of the fixed contact 3(c) after this restoration by using the travel distance of the adjusting piece, a step for obtaining a restoring quantity S based on the position 3(b) and the position 3(c), a step for determining a deforming quantity required to get desired plastic deformation of the fixed contact terminal as the travel distance of the adjusting piece based on the restoring quantity S and the coefficient K corresponding to this, and a step for deforming the fixed contact terminal to the required deforming quantity by moving the adjusting piece to the travel distance.
