PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an areal flowmeter which enables measurement of the flow rate of a fluid by making the working direction of its pressure body which sets the effective cross-section of a through conduit in parallel with the flowing direction of the fluid, and detecting the stroke of the pressure body by a strain gauge. SOLUTION: This flowmeter is composed of its body, the pressure body, an elastic means, a beam, and the strain gauge. The body has a passage which is penetrated axially, and stretches in parallel with a piping direction. The pressure body is equipped with a cone whose diameter increases in a downstream direction, and is arranged in the body axially movably. The elastic means is strung with its one end linked to the pressure body, and urges the pressure body in the upstream direction. The beam is linked to the other end of the strung elastic means, and is bent by the axial movement of the pressure body. The strain gauge detects the deflection of the beam. The flow rate is measured by detecting, from the quantity of the deflection of the beam, the effective cross-section of the passage made up of the cone and the passage which is determined by a position where the resilient force of the elastic means and the pressure of the fluid balance, and the pressure body which moves in the downstream direction by the pressure of the fluid applied to the cone becomes stationary.
