A data input device (10) includes a housing (12), a mouse device, data entry keypad (16), a calculator device and a mode selector. The mouse device includes a mouse microcontroller, a mouse optical position sensor and mouse pointer buttons. The data entry keypad (16) includes numeric and arithmetic data keys (30) and is operable to input numeric/arithmetic data to a computer. The calculator device includes a calculator processor and a calculator memory. The mode selector, in the form of a mode selection key (20), toggles the input device (10) between a calculator mode and a data key mode. In the calculator mode the calculator processor is enabled to perform arithmetical calculations in response to numeric/arithmetic data that is inputted via the data entry keypad (16) and the calculated data is sent to the computer. In the data key mode, numeric/arithmetic data and non numerical data is inputted to the computer via the data keys (30).
