<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording medium which is excellent in water resistance, reduces sticking and the fouling of a thermal head, and suppresses discoloration. <P>SOLUTION: The thermal recording medium is a layer containing a polyvinyl alcohol resin composition containing a polyvinyl alcohol resin (A) having aldehyde groups on side chains and a polyvinyl alcohol resin (B) having active hydrogen-containing functional groups.
