<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical modulator capable of solving the problem of impedance inconsistency common to optical modulators having a structure wherein a plurality of signal electrodes branch from one signal electrode, and having excellent optical modulation characteristics such as reduction of driving voltage and enhancement of frequency characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical modulator which has a substrate 1 consisting of a material having an optoelectronic effect, a plurality of optical waveguide parts 2 formed on the substrate and signal electrodes and a grounded electrode for modulating light passing in the optical waveguide parts and wherein a plurality of signal electrodes (5-1, 5-2) branch from at least the one signal electrode, it is characterized in that impedance concerned in the signal electrode before branch and synthesized impedance concerned in the signal electrodes after branch are made coincident with each other or an impedance consistence line is provided at a branching part. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
