PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer stabilized by a protective colloid and of a redispersible powder form in an aqueous dispersion medium and in water, and to provide a method for producing the polymer. SOLUTION: The polymer stabilized by a protective colloid and of a redispersible powder form in an aqueous dispersion medium and in water is based on a homo or copolymer comprising one or more monomers selected from a group consisting of 1-15C (branched) alkylcarboxylic acid vinyl esters, 1-15C alcohol methacrylic acid esters and acrylic acid esters, vinyl aromatic compounds, olefins, dienes and vinyl halides. The polymer stabilized by a protective colloid includes, as the protective colloid, a partially saponified vinyl acetate-ethylene-copolymer having an ethylene ratio of 1-15 mol%, a vinyl acetate unit saponification number VG of 80 mol%≤VG<95 mol% and a Hoeppler viscosity of 2-30 mPas in 4% aqueous solution.
