<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode hardly causing a flooding phenomenon and having a carbon layer with an optimized void ratio. <P>SOLUTION: In this polymer electrolyte type fuel cell, this electrode of the cell has the carbon layer, a gas diffusion layer formed of a gas diffusion base material, and a catalyst layer in contact with an electrolyte of the cell. The carbon layer is disposed on the side of the catalyst layer, and divided into an island-like form or a grid-like form on its inside surface. Void parts are formed among the carbon layers divided into the island-like form or the grid-like form. By setting its void ratio to 0.1-30 %, the fuel cell strong against a flooding phenomenon can be composed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
