<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anatase type titania-silica composite having photocatalysis high in responsiveness and excellent in organic matter decomposition, and to provide a production method therefor. <P>SOLUTION: In this anatase type titania-silica composite composed of titanium oxide and amorphous silica, titania comprises an anatase crystal phase, does not substantially contain a rutile phase originally and even after the heat treatment at 1,100°C for ≥1 hr in the atmosphere, and has a phase stability enabling to exist as the anatase titania having an at most 70nm crystallite diameter. Therefore, the composite has double or more of photocatalysis comparing with anatase titania containing no silica. The composite is obtained by dispersing or dissolving a Ti-and Si-containing compound in an aqueous and/or alcoholic medium and hydrothermally reacting the resulting mixture solution in a sealed container. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
