PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To very industrially advantageously provide a thermoplastic resin composition which exhibits excellent balance among impact strength, transparency and molding properties and gives a molded item hardly stained on injection molding, and the molded item. SOLUTION: The thermoplastic resin comprises a copolymer (X) comprised of a styrene monomer unit and a (meth)acrylate monomer unit and a rubbery substance (Y), where the copolymer (X) and the rubbery substance (Y) form a continuous phase and a particulate dispersion phase [hereinafter, referred to as dispersed particles], respectively, and the particulate dispersion phase is comprised of dispersed particles having a number-average particle size of 0.1-2.0μm. The dispersed particle has a rubber component content of 0.2-20 mass% based on 100 mass% of the thermoplastic resin. The THF soluble component of the thermoplastic resin has a weight-average molecular weight to number-average molecular weight ratio of at most 2.5. The thermoplastic resin composition comprises 0.5-8 pts. mass of the (co)polymer mainly composed of a (meth)acrylate monomer and having a weight-average molecular weight of 500-5,000 based on 100 mass% of the thermoplastic resin.
