<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the wasteful consumption of ink and paper by feeding paper before a start of printing, reading in a blank image by an on-carriage scanner to determine the size of the paper, and converting a print image to the paper in a host. <P>SOLUTION: An image reading means and a paper width detecting means using a reading result are provided.
